What's inside your mattress?

What's inside your mattress?

When you're shopping for a mattress, it’s easy to focus on the surface — the fabric, the brand, or the price. But what truly affects how you sleep every night is what’s inside the mattress. At Comfort Sleep Systems, we believe an educated customer is a well-rested customer. That’s why we’re pulling back the cover and breaking down the most popular materials used in mattress construction — what they are, how they feel, and why they matter.

Talalay Latex

Talalay latex is a premium, eco-friendly material made from natural rubber sap. What makes it unique is its specialized production process, which results in a soft, breathable, and buoyant feel. It gently cradles the body, offering excellent pressure relief without that “sinking” sensation.

Why we love it: Perfect for sleepers who want a responsive, cushioned surface with superior airflow and durability. Available in a wide variety of firmness levels making it a great component for any type of sleeper.

Coils / Innerspring

Today’s coil systems are a far cry from the squeaky springs of the past. Individually wrapped coils (also sometimes known as pocketed coils) move independently, which helps reduce motion transfer and contour to your body more precisely than traditional interconnected springs.

Why this classic component is great: Offers time-tested support, exceptional durability, and great responsiveness — especially in hybrid designs. Very traditional and classic feel.

Urethane Foam

Urethane foam (sometimes referred to as polyurethane foam) is a widely used material in mattresses, providing support and cushioning layers. It comes in a wide range of quality levels as well as firmness levels and is often used as a base or transition layer in layered constructions.

What we use it for: A practical, more affordable, flexible component that allows for comfortable layering and cost-effective customization.

Memory Foam

Originally developed by NASA, memory foam has revolutionized the sleep industry. It responds to body heat and pressure, slowly molding to your shape and then returning to form when you move. It’s excellent for reducing motion transfer and relieving pressure points.

Why it can be great: Ideal for couples and side sleepers who want a gentle, body-hugging experience. *Fun fact, here at Comfort Sleep Systems, we utilize a very special and unique memory foam that is NOT temperature sensitive. Check out our Response Plus or Echo mattresses.

Every Layer Matters

At Comfort Sleep Systems, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all sleep. That’s why we offer a variety of high-quality materials — from talalay latex to advanced foams — and build each mattress to meet your specific needs. Whether you’re looking for firmness, softness, breathability, or pressure relief, we’ll help you find the perfect combination.
